Marlene Winell, Ph.D., is a psychologist and educator specializing in recovery from fundamentalist religion. She has experienced in her own life the transition from being a devout religionist to being a “reclaimer,” a person who has left religion and reclaimed her life. She has been working in the area of religious trauma for over thirty years and coined the term, Religious Trauma Syndrome. Dr. Winell is the author of Leaving the Fold: A Guide for Former Fundamentalists and Others Leaving Religion. She is now the director of Journey Free: Recovery from Harmful Religion, an agency providing online support for individuals, groups, and professionals. The support group is called Release and Reclaim, and the professional training for religious recovery consulting is in the Helping Professionals Group.
